The group show where Charlie Billingham takes part, in the Plant Scenery of the World, presented across Inverleith House and the Front Range glasshouse at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh,  tries to take the visitors to  the theatrical, utopian and naturalistic display of plants under glass. With new context-specific commissions from artists Laura Aldridge, Charlie Billingham, Bobby Niven and Oliver Osborne, these dialogical displays of contemporary art and archival material from RBGE’s collection will examine historical narratives dominated by Western exploration – narratives that have shaped conceptions and preconceptions of “the exotic”, understandings and misunderstandings  of other places and views on identity and otherness.
