The work of the artist Claudia Pagès Rabal interweaves writing, sculpture and choreography. To do so, they generate visual and linguistic devices such as video installations, works on paper, books and other materialities that they use to conceptualise their projects.
Claudia’s artistic practice deals with circulation and maintenance, and their role in sustaining the status quo. The continuity of certain systems and institutions is maintained through what Pagès calls the “immobility of stable circulations” and the “architectures of containment” that sustain power through specific flows of goods, capital and value within a suspended and capturing present. Their most recent research has been oriented towards psychoanalysis, linguistics, time, and the search for primary signifiers in territories that operate as palimpsests.
Pagès has focused on the logistics system and its link to jurisdictional language, both operating in the verbal tense of a non-finite and violent gerund that has direct effects on bodies. Pagès’s artistic research addresses circulation and maintenance and their role in sustaining the status quo. She is currently representing Catalonia at “Catalonia in Venice,” a series of side events at the 61st Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition.
Her work has been exhibited at spaces such as Art Sonje Center, Seul, Korea (2025); INDEX, Stockholm (2025); Mumok, Vienna (2025); Chisenhale, London (2025); Istanbul Biennale 18th (2025); Manifesta 15, Barcelona (2024); IVAM, Valencia (2024); Sculpture Center, New York (2024); CA2M, Madrid (2023); Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona (2023); Tabakalera, Donostia (2022); Vleeshal, Middelburg (2022); MACBA, Barcelona, (2022); CAPC, Bordeaux (2022); Kunstverein Braunschweig, Braunschweig (2021); Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE (2018). She published her hair (2020) with Onomatopee; Rats and Roaches (2020) with Jupiter Woods, Yaby, AC/E. Her first novel, Més de dues aigües, was published in Catalan by Empúries Narrativa in 2024, and will launch a new book with Wendy’s Subway in 2025. Pagès was awarded the Ojo Crítico Visual Arts Award in 2022, and has been an artist-in-residence at Gasworks, London (2017) and Triangle France, Marseille (2020).
Paper Tears, Catalonia in Venice | Claudia Pagès Rabal
“Paper Tears” by Claudia Pagès Rabal is the project selected for “Catalonia in Venice,” the Catalan cultural contribution to the Collateral Events of the Venice Biennale. The installation combines light, sound, imagery, and choreography, with a central element: an archive of watermarks—patterns visible only when held up to the light on paper. Feudal Holes is the solo exhibition by artist Claudia Pagès Rabal at mumok – museum moderner kunst stiftung ludwig wien – in Vienna, Austria. The exhibition, curated by Franz Thalmair, will be open until May 17, 2026, and will be accompanied by a catalog covering this exhibition and Five Defense Towers, which was presented by Chisenhale Gallery in early 2025.
