SIN PRINCIPIO / SIN FINAL: National university of Colombia

Sin principio / sin final is based on an antologic exhibition from Ignasi Aballí (Barcelona 1958) curated by Joao Fernandes for the Madrid Reina Sofia Museum. The exhibition composed by various works produced during the artists 10 last years of activity, as well as a set of works produced for the national university of colombia’s art district.

To welcome that visit, the university has invited two colombian artists from posterior generations that share his approach to art: Mateo López (1978) and Bernardo Ortiz (1972); to offer dialogues and conexions that visitors will establish freely if they accept the challenge proposed by the artists to expand notions of visibility, categories of reality and values of art and its way of being concieved.
Colombian artist Mateo López is known for its varied work which presents a conceptual focus that includes drawings, installations, architecture, filmmaking and, what he calls, sculptural choreographies, all representing artistical journeys that revolve around the encounters of our everyday life.

PERPETUAL CONSTRUCTION: A DIALOGUE WITH THE HOUSE OF JEAN PROUVÉ III

The upcoming exhibition at CAB departs from the climate of reconstruction that marked Post-WWII Europe; the context in which Jean Prouvé conceived his Demountable House 6×6 as a temporary refuge for people who had lost their homes during the war.
The exhibition is therefore set up as an urban construction site, drawing attention to the way we organise, control and inhabit space. Some constellations deal with the actual materials making up the concrete, modernist constructions, such as Christoph Weber, Jose Davila, Lena Verijke and Nina Canell. They hereby inscribe themselves in the hegemony of contemporary architecture, while questioning the mechanics that underline its discourse. Through these different projects by both Belgian and international artists, Perpetual Construction explores the city as a self-organizing chaotic biotope.

WESERBURG, MUSEUM FÜR MODERNE KUNST

John Isaacs takes part in Proof of Life, an exhibition at Weserburg, Museum für moderne Kunst, Bremen, from May 24, 2017 until February 24, 2018.
The exhibition brings together 100 paintings, sculptures and photographic works that investigate existential questions in a both palpable and profound manner.  What these works show is related directly to a tradition of influential pictures, some of which go far back in time.  They are also quote, seduce, irritate, provoke and thematize concepts of moral values. This includes a mention to situate in historical terms what is being seen, and also to relate it to the present quite concretely. The works come from a private collection that has never before been publicly presented in this form. Proof of Life presents a precise selection of in some cases space-encompassing but always impressive works by international artistic stars such as Louise Bourgeois, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Anton Corbijn, Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst and Daniel Richter.

XII Bienal de la Habana

Intervention to Los Carpinteros’ studio for the XII Havana Biennale 2015, Cuba
22th of May, 2015 – 22th of Juny, 2015

Jose Dávila will present a site-specific series of sculptures that deal with the notion of the never-ending struggle against gravity. Fueled by his interest in architecture, minimalism and history of art, the sculptures show a moment of suspension that makes possible to appreciate the politics of equilibrium.
Emerging from an interest about a physical phenomenon, Dávila keeps free-fall in tension in order to rescue the aesthetic qualities of structural engineering. For this project, the artist challenges the functionalist appreciation of physics to ponder the structure as an artistic composition.
Alongside the sculptural work, Dávila will intervene a series of images he carefully chose and extracted from the library found at the studio, which is the former house of Dr. René Vallejo, a well-known physician in Havana.
